Chairmans Reports 2008
April
I was unable to attend our April meeting due to a hospital visit for routine tests. Unfortunately my family have a very bad history of bowel cancer. Luckily for me I am able to have regular check ups. Everything is as it should be and all is well with my rear end thankfully.
John Owen stood in for me and conducted what I am told was a very good evening.
Chris Pouncy from Robert Sorby tools demonstrated Robert Sorbys new tool Pro sharpening system, I have seen it demonstrated at Yandls show it is quite impressive. He then went on to demonstrate their texturing and spiralling systems. I am very sorry I missed this as texturing is of great interest to me
. I spoke to Chris the night after the meeting and he told me he is doing the same demo for Somerset woodturners later in the year so I will have an opportunity to see it then.
Apparently Chris is a very clever and entertaining demonstrator.
The members were so pleased we have already booked Chris for 2010.
As this is the last meeting before our 2008 AGM we were hoping for nominations for committee but it seems everyone is happy with the committee we have so it looks like we will all be staying on for another year. I would like to take this opportunity to remind members that subs are due and strictly speaking only paid up members are entitled to attend an AGM. That said we will not be turning anyone away but it will help our books if everyone pay’s up.
Our project table is improving but there are still a lot of members that are not bringing in their work. This is a pity because it is an opportunity for us all to share in each other’s work.
The project for May is a textured or coloured bowl.
We are still not getting enough content for our web site and need photographs, tips and articles for inclusion.
